5-5-2-0 Policy for Participation

Belleview Middle School has implemented School-wide guidelines for participation in extra curricular activities including athletics. Any student interested in trying out for a team must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate on one of our athletic teams. If a student is ineligible, they will be notified by the Athletic Director or coach for that particular sport and they will be unable to participate. Eligibility is based on behavior, academics and attendance as stated in the BMS student handbook.

1. Students cannot have more than 5 Out of School Suspensions (OSS), In School Suspensions (ISS), bus suspensions or referrals for the current school year.

2. Students cannot have more than 5 UNEXCUSED absences

3. Students must have CUMULATIVE 2.0 GPA. This means that their GPA MUST be at 2.0 or higher overall from 6th grade to their current year at BMS.

4. Students must have ZERO (0) debt owed in Marion County Public Schools. This includes textbook fees, library fees, athletic fees and various fees that have been placed on their student accounts. This includes fees incurred from elementary school as well.

Paperwork

 

Per MCPS requirements, any middle school student who attends tryouts or practices MUST have a consent form turned in on the first day of tryouts or practice.

Students who make the competitive team(s) MUST have a Sports Physical completed and returned by the first scheduled contest. It is imperative the physical form receives a certified stamp from the physician doing the physical exam.  Forms are available below to download, print and return to the athletic director:

Marathon

Cross Country:  August through September, with the County Championship held at Belleview High School with all MCPS middle school teams. There are tryouts for Cross Country, however all students will be a part of the competitive team if they continue coming to practice.

Volley Ball

Volleyball:  September through November, with the County Championship held at the highest seed for teams participating in that championship game. Practices will vary based on the coaches.Practices are generally the mornings in the BMS gym. Tryouts will be no less than 3 days in length, some cuts can be made after the 2nd tryout date with the competitive team announced at the conclusion of the 3rd tryout date. Not all students who try out will make the competitive team.

Flag Football: November through January, with the county championship held at Jervey Gantt sports complex.Practices will vary based on coaches.Boys generally practice in the morning and girls generally practice after school, this is subject to change by their coach. Tryouts will be no less than 3 days in length, some cuts can be made after the 2nd tryout date with the competitive team announced at the conclusion of the 3rd tryout date. Not all students who try out will make the competitive team.

BasketBall

Basketball: February through April, with the County Championship held at the highest seed for teams participating in that championship game. Practices will vary from week to week at their coaches discretion, but girls generally practice in the morning before school and boys generally practice after school. Tryouts will be no less than 3 days in length, some cuts can be made after the 2nd tryout date with the competitive team announced at the conclusion of the 3rd tryout date. Not all students who try out will make the competitive team.

Track and Field

Track and Field: April through May, with the County Championship held at Belleview Middle School with all MCPS middle school teams. Practices are generally 2 days a week for boys and 2 days a week for girls.This may vary based on the coaches discretion.There are tryouts for track, however all students who continue attending practice will be a part of a practice meet against a few other schools but only certain athletes will be chosen to compete in the Marion county district track meet.

Whistle

 

Coaches are available to speak with athletes and parents before or after school. Any athlete or parent requesting to speak with a coach must contact the coach via email or phone and set up an appointment at least 24 hours in advance.  Please see the coaching staff contact information.
